Described on TripAdvisor as ‘one of Barry’s best kept secrets’, The Lighthouse is based at Barry Yacht club. At the time of writing, we’re seeing the Covid-19 lockdown rules relax, but still aren’t quite able to sit down in restaurants; it’s delivery or collection only. So I wasn’t able to enjoy the beautiful views, but did enjoy some beautiful food with their takeaway Sunday Lunch.

I’ve never had a roast dinner delivered to me before, but I’m not the most patient when it comes to cooking (and Sunday is a day of rest after all ;D) so it was nice to have it delivered to my door, all fresh and prepared. All you need to do is pop into the oven for five mins to get it nice and hot (gravy comes in a separate cup, which I microwaved for a bit).

As you can see, they don’t skimp on the portion sizes. I went for the supreme of chicken which was perfect. I can be a bit fussy with chicken but it was cooked so well and had a lot of flavour to it. Gravy was lush too, great consistency. Veg and potatoes were really nice; I particularly liked the leek mornay, so creamy and cheesy! Big yorkshire pud with a crispy, puffy outside and a soft middle that I enjoyed drowning in gravy. There wasn’t one bit of it that wasn’t delicious, I got pretty stuffed from the whole thing so didn’t eat the dessert til hours later.
I didn’t try the beef but it had top reviews from my dining partner (my mum). The veggie option of a herb baked filo parcel sounds tasty also.

Love a good creme brûlée - doesn’t it always feel like such an elegant dessert pick?! That top layer gave that welcome ‘crack’ as I got stuck in and the light, creamy custardy goodness inside certainly satisfied my sweet tooth.

This meal exceeded my expectations and I definitely highly recommend it. I rarely eat a roast out, I’m one of those weird people who will go out with everyone Sunday lunch and choose fish or pasta whilst everyone gets stuck into their pork and crackling. But this was one of the best I’ve had, it really felt like I’d been invited over for a family lunch. Sometimes I just adore a hearty, warming and comforting meal like this.
I can see from their Facebook that these roasts are selling well and often selling out - I think this is one of those restaurants that’s a bit of a hidden gem, loved by locals who know where to find it, but there are a number of people I’ve mentioned it to who hadn’t heard of it. Well, now you know, it’s worth checking out! I hope to try their breakfasts when it’s back open! They also cater for functions, events, dinner parties and more.
