(The Pumphouse, Hood Road - website here)

At the time of writing when I click to visit the website there's a note explaining how they are currently closed due to the impact of Covid-19; so sad to read and really hope it won't be too long before they can get back on their feet and start serving again, because their food is amazing! I'm sure you'll all have heard of them already - run by the super talented Sam and Shauna, the business started out as a BBQ street food stall and expanded to a much loved restaurant, based in Barry.

They offer Louisiana soul food classics with meat of insanely good quality. I decided to go all out and pick three meats, going for the 3 hr smoked Texas sausage, 9 hour smoked brisket with texas toast and 7 hour smoked St Louis spare ribs. It was all bloody gorgeous, but for me the starter of shrimp and grits stole the show. So unusual, never had it before and would get it again.

Also tried my mum's order of piggybacks (smoked pork shoulder in puffed up pork chicharrons) and the 1/2 chicken with Alabama white BBQ sauce. Beautiful! The only thing for me is I don't 'love' fries so wish they did other potato options as a side, like a crispy jacket potato with sour cream would have been lush. The brownie was nice, though nothing special, I was hoping smores would be on the menu after seeing it on a friend's Instagram, but they'd taken it off.
